As you saw in the previous post, we had a great logo for our "Giberson Races" designed by Niles Giberson.  For our shirts, he designed a logo for Grandpa and each of the siblings as the "race sponsers".  They are all printed on the back of the shirts modeled here by Aubrey, Jay, and Owen.

In addition to being on the shirts, they were also displayed as part of the decorations for our Friday night dinner and Pinewood Derby.

We so appreciate Niles sharing his talents in this way with the family and were sorry that Niles and Rachel couldn't attend as they are currently in Chicago where Niles has an internship.

although we had not scheduled Friday afternoon activities other than setting up for dinner, it became construction time as people hurried to put the final touches on their pinewood derby cars.  These were all taken at Uncle Lance and Aunt Valerie's house.

Extended coverage of the "Great Grandchildren Adventure"

Here is more pictures of all the Gibersons at the children's museum in Mesa.  This activity was for the great grandchildren: (in order of age)  Aubrey, Jay, Owen, Max, Sophee, and Morgan.  The only one missing was Guenniver. These are mostly different pictures than posted before.

THE REUNION--Giberson Races

after three years of waiting and lots of planning, emails, and telephones calls, we finally gathered in Mesa AZ for "The Giberson Races".  I think the total count for attendees was 40 although I don't think we ever sat still long enough to confirm that for sure.  Thanks to all those who came and we missed the ones who weren't there.  Maybe next time---2015.  I don't think a place was decided, however Texas and Utah were in the running.

I have already post about the reunion on my family blog www.hifromsyracuse.blogspot.com.  I am hoping that I can copy those posts directly on to this site.  However I haven't figured out the way to do that yet.  (If someone knows how to do that, please let me know.) I am just going to post additional pictures of the reunion here first, grouping them by the activities.

It is that time of life when Gibersons everywhere come to gather to enjoy time together—talking, playing games, and whatever other fun stuff we can think of.  This year it has been chosen to meet in sunny (translated that means hot) Mesa, AZ.  It will be a great time to meet the three newest members of the clan—Max, Sophee, and Morgan.  We expected this to be the biggest gathering ever.

Reunion Details

Friday-22^nd—pre-reunion morning activity  

“Great-grandchildren Adventure”

Taking the available great-grandchildren on an inside outing.  Everyone is invited but the focus is on them.  Great grandparents and grandparents along with the great-grands and their parents are specifically invited. 

Friday evening 6-9.30 p.m.—

“The Grand Giberson Grub and Pinewood Derby Races"

We will eat dinner and then run our Pinewood Derby races. 

We will have prizes in all types of categories so have fun with your designs.  Most local craft shops or Boy Scout offices carry kits to make them.  Under 5 oz. with the official wheels and axels are the general rules for the official races but you are free to design one anyway you would like for the open class.  Gary will send some other height requirements related to our track later. 

We would also like to take family pictures this night using the foyer for the smaller groups and the stage and curtain for the larger Giberson Family shots.  We will be using cameras within the family so bring yours along and we will see who gets the best shots.  Tentative plan is for everyone to wear mostly denim jeans. Shorts, capris, or skirts and wearing bright casual shirts of yellows, blues, greens, reds, purples, or orange.  You can wear layers, put bows in your hair, or wear white or khakis pants. Hopefully that makes sense and is doable for  everyone without much extra planning.

Saturday, 23^rd

“Giberorignal Ipson Family and Friends 5K

Run, Bike, Walk, and Stroller”

Start time—6.30 a.m.

Please arrive earlier to sign in and get your race number and route information.  Location will be announced later.

Pancake Breakfast at the Park—Serving starts at 7.00 a.m.

The 5K will end at the park so that participates can eat.  All non-participants are invited for breakfast and to cheer the racers.  Breakfast will be done by 8.00.

11-4 

After time for showers and naps if needed, join other Gibersons at the Church for games of all kinds.  You are welcome to bring games you want to play, we will set up volleyball and then basketball, and some chairs for those who just want to talk.  We will have an easy lunch of sandwiches, chips, etc. and snacks.

We will let you know about ticket prices, etc.  Those not going can hang out at their hotels, visit places of local interest, or hang out with cousins somewhere.  We need an idea of who might be interested so we can see if we might qualify for a group discount of some kinds.

Sunday, 24^th  Last Day 

Everyone who would like is invited to attend Church with the Ipsons starting at 11,00.  Depending on how many are still in town, we might try to gather at Ipsons for dinner after Church.  Let us know your planned departure times.

Red hair and Genealogy

As mentioned in my "Three Mothers" biography, I didn't include everything I even thought of, some things left out deliberately, others just "missed" at the time, or not considered to add much.  Recently I've thought of something from my childhood (well teen years, most likely 13) that maybe of passing interest.  What triggered this was the notice recently that Valerie was getting some of the Ollie genealogy completed in the temple.  Now, I don't really know if Harry (or his progenators) had red hair or not, but the 13 year old episode allude to was this:

My mother's latest husband and the two of us (Mom and I) had gone up from San Diego to someplace near Long Beach or LA.  Anyway, (side note) he had taken me out in a motor launch to a small ??? (not sure what to call it) but we stood on this thing in the middle of this bay and fished.  (My kids will know I am NOT a fisherman).  But this was kind of fun, in that "he" baited my hook and I tossed it in and almost immediately pulled up a small fish, I have no idea after all these years what kind.  We were there for not more than 30 minutes and pulled in several fish.  But now to the point of my story.  Somehow on this same trip, we met a boy who had to of been but one or two years at most my junior and who could well have passed as my twin!  Reflecting on it after all these years I wonder if somehow Mom knew that Harry was going to be up there and this young boy was his son?  Pure speculation on my part but perhaps it makes interesting reading to my children.
