Valerie and I (as we have begun trying to share the stories of our families with our grandchildren) decided that there would be many stories that might be of interest to our extended Giberson family as well.  So we decided to use giberiginal.blogspot.com as a way to share them with a broader audience.  Feel free to add stories of your own.  Contact Valerie or I if you need help with that.

Happy Father's Day!

RICHARD CREIGHTON GIBERSON

Dad begins his life story by writing about three mothers, all who performed a noble and divine role. One gave birth to him, another raised him to be a good boy, and the third was an example of a righteous Latter-day Saint mother. 

But for a boy who had a myriad of potential fathers (biological, adopted, and others who came in and out of his mother's life), he had no dad. Mom said he worried that he wouldn't know how to be one himself. Ready or not, he got the chance with eight children of his own.

The Family: A Proclamation To the World states: "Successful . . . families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and *wholesome recreational activities. By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families." 

Recently Sister Linda Reeves of the General Relief Society Presidency said: "The only things that really need to be accomplished in the home are daily scripture study and prayer and weekly family home evening.”

And in 2nd Nephi 25:26 we read: "We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ . . . that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."

In all the ways that matter, the answer to Dad's concern is a resounding YES!

Love you, Dad! Thank you for EVERYTHING!

Family Flashback!

After 43 years it's finally been resolved. Scott is in town and was reading from our Giberson family history (RICHLAND YEARS, circa 1971) that he threw a fit because he didn't like the song Valerie was playing on the record player. (David Cassidy's "I think I Love You"--what's not to love, I ask you??) He wanted a family favorite, that we kids loved to dance to. Lance found it on YouTube and played it for Scott. (Alas, no pictures of us dancing, but I think Morgan enjoyed it.)

Note: I don't know if all the details of the incident were recorded in the family history, but I think I read them in Mom's journal, so was able to put the pieces together.

Announcing GRANDMA'S BOOK CLUB!

Family,

You are invited to our new group called "Grandma's Book Club."  We thought since many of us like to read it might be fun to read some of the same books. I (Judy) found some lists created Mom of books that she has read. We actually can't tell if she liked the books or not, but we thought it would be fun to choose a book a month and then people can comment about the book as they finish it. No pressure....just read the book if you would like and then we will go from there. To start with: "Welcome to Hard Times" by E. L. Doctorow. This is an American Western which starts with some violence and then how people rebuild (according to the Amazon review).

Giberson Game Night

The Ipson home was the site of this year's Giberson Game Night, the Mesa, AZ Version, with Ipsons, Neerings, and Mesa, Lubbock & Virginia Gibersons.

We started off with soups (yummy Pumpkin, Tortilla, and Sausage & Kale) and fruit for dinner, then we sang Happy Birthday to Will who turned 22!

One of our new games, Flashpoint, was a hit...

We also ate cookies and sno cones and played more new games, Dixit and Bubble Talk. Tosha was the Konexi winner (our new game from Mike & Andrea).

We got so involved in our games we didn't even remember to play Rotation Ping Pong (we got a new Ping Pong table for Christmas!). We'll have to save that for the New Year's Eve party.

Saturday was the b-ball matchup between BYU & Will's Virginia Tech. The fans from opposing teames were good sports, even when VA Tech lost 97 to 71.

Hope Gibersons are having fun wherever they are this holiday season!

OCTOBER
 

Here it is October. The leaves know. They rustle

with an extra vigor, trying to make the most of the

time they have left.

 

Every sound is different, somehow; wisps of all

Octobers past are in the air, bringing back not

memories really, just feelings.

 

When October comes, I want to savor it.

But it is one of those busy months. I try to look

ahead for a day I will be free to just enjoy. By

the time it comes October will be gone and the last

warm days will have faded into November.

 

It makes me sad.

October, I love you. Don't go yet.
